Mindful into the New Year

The beginning of a new year always brings an opportunity to start afresh, with new intentions and habits.
Personally, I tend to be cautious of new year resolutions as I easily get caught up in trying to 'do' too much, but I do like to reflect on the previous year and plan things to help me take care of myself and to stay connected and present to each moment.
I often go back to creating a habit of 'everyday practice moments' to help me keep mindfulness part of everyday life so that I can be with what is with equanimity.
I would like to share some ideas with you and perhaps we can practice knowing that we are doing this together.

Ideas for everyday practice moments
  1. Choose a regular mindful activity                                     Commit to doing a specific activity mindfully every day. This could be eating, brushing your teeth or putting your coat on. Simply notice sensations, thoughts, emotions with an open, non-judging mind.
  2. Relax your Jaw                                                         Remember to relax your Jaw and your Tongue at regular intervals throughout the day. Notice what happens when you do...
  3. Get to know your breath                                                 Practice observing and feeling your breath. You may notice your breath in your belly, in your chest or in your nostrils. Allow it to flow freely without trying to change it. You can do this as a formal practice for as long as it feels appropriate for you, or practice informally whenever you have a moment; like waiting for the bus or in a queue.
Whatever you practice, be playful and make it work for you.

I would love to hear what works for you as we can practice best as a community.  Please comment on my Facebook Page
